Project Title: The GROW Coaching Model

Time in Development: hours

Client: Enova

Problem: Prior to the introduction of the GROW coaching model in 1:1 meetings, new managers faced a challenge in internalizing and remembering the model's steps. The anticipation of incorporating this new approach brought about concerns regarding memory retention, as managers expressed uncertainty about seamlessly recalling and applying the GROW model during coaching sessions.

Solution: To proactively address this challenge, I developed a targeted job aid designed to assist new managers in memorizing and internalizing the steps of the GROW coaching model before they began its implementation. The job aid served as a preparatory tool, offering a structured and accessible guide to help managers confidently recall the model's steps. This proactive solution aimed to bridge the pre-implementation memory gap, ensuring that managers felt well-equipped and prepared to apply the GROW coaching model effectively in their 1:1 meetings.

Results: As a result of implementing this job aid, managers reported its effectiveness in facilitating the recall of the GROW coaching model's steps. Initially relying on the aid for guidance, managers found that after referring to it a couple of times, they no longer needed it. The job aid served as a valuable tool in building their confidence and competence, enabling them to remember and apply the coaching model in subsequent 1:1 meetings.

Problem: New managers have a hard time communicating concerns they have with team members. The meetings tend to end without a clear understanding and resolution to the issue.

Solution: An eLearning training on effective communication that leads to resolution was implemented. Following the training a job aid was designed for reinforcement.

Results: In a survey, 90% of new managers reported that they felt the training helped them to communicate concerns to team members more effectively. The managers felt the meetings ended with a peaceful resolution.
